Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Chemicals, Automobiles & Parts and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.27%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which rose 1.27% or 13.00 points to trade at 1,036.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 0.23% or 1.20 points to end at 526.20 and Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) was up 0.18% or 1.00 points to 549.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which fell 4.79% or 360.00 points to trade at 7,160.00 at the close. Frasers Group PLC (LON:FRAS) declined 4.48% or 39.50 points to end at 842.50 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was down 3.99% or 414.00 points to 9,976.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1151 to 631 and 689 ended unchanged.

Shares in Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.79% or 360.00 to 7,160.00. Shares in Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) rose to 5-year highs; up 0.23% or 1.20 to 526.20.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.24% or 32.55 to $2,647.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.14% or 0.10 to hit $71.06 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.32 to trade at $74.56 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.17% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 100.41.
